Nearly twenty years after their first recording 1RDR, the quartet comprising Magic Malik, Toma Gouband, Harmen Fraanje, and Brice Soniano opens a captivating new chapter with “The song bird sang”.

Recorded in the exquisite acoustic setting of Studio La Buissonne in July 2025, this new work marks a profound evolution in their chemistry. While the spirit of free improvisation and organic interaction remains the group’s beating heart, the repertoire is now enriched by original compositions from each of the four musicians.

The title, evocative of a wild nature reclaimed, perfectly reflects the music: a bird’s song rising from off the beaten path. Balancing chiseled writing with total spontaneity, the quartet sketches soundscapes where stones, breath, strings, and piano resonate with a newfound clarity and maturity.
